Progressivism

Plain and simple the “Progressives” see the Constitution as an obstacle to their schemes to grow government power and control.

Prior to “progressivism” there was a general respect for the 9th and 10 Amendments which allowed states and the people to operate independent of the Federal government.

At best they pay “lip service” to the Constitution as they fight tooth and nail to push their agenda upon the public.

The Federal government did not create the States; the States created the Federal government.  And, the States within the limits of the Constitution had their independence to operate as they saw fit.  The progressives saw it differently as they do to this day.

Rather than a nation governed by citizen states people, they saw a nation controlled by an administrative bureaucracy of so-called experts that knew best how to get the jobs done.

The Constitution was not to be a fixed legal document, but something that could be manipulated to fit the agenda.  Case in point, the Commerce Clause of the Constitution, which was designed to keep the various States from taking actions that would hinder trade between the States, or play favorites among States.  The progressives decided to reinvent the word “commerce” to mean all of industry, given them the power to regulate every aspect of business:  industry, agriculture, etc.  Adopting from other nations, the progressives ignored the Constitution and created national social programs that previously would have been the prerogatives of the states or the people.

The ultimate fact being that most of what the Federal government does, and negatively impacts our people and the economy is absolutely unconstitutional as they exceed the authority granted under the Constitution to the Federal government.
